3 Red Lights for my birthday! Hooray!

Well, tonight I figured I'd really get started on Mass Effect.  I had just created a character last night.  Boot up the game and head off to see the Captain of the ship.  Then the screen goes blank.  The power indicator to my HD-DVD drive goes out.  I think uh-oh.  I disconnect the HD-DVD drive and reboot.  The system hangs on the splash.

Okay, time to troubleshoot.  I disconnect the hard drive and boot.  I get to the dashboard and then checkered screen.  I've seen this before and I know that the three red lights are going to come.  I unplug the system and wait.  Reboot.  It works!  Load up Mass Effect and then the screen checkers again.  Reboot.  3 RED LIGHTS.  Reboot...3 RED LIGHTS.

The timing just fucking stinks.  Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

Goodbye 108 day gaming streak.  I'll also have to wait to watch Bladerunner, my collector's set just arrived yesterday.  Bummer.

Assassin's Creed

I finished up Assassin's Creed yesterday.  The game was enjoyable, albeit some parts of the game were tedious.  The premise is that you are an assassin during the Crusades, with a twist that you are actually in the future and "replaying" your ancestor's memories through some experiment.  The game is almost a stealth game crossed with a hack and slash game.  The stealth aspects aren't like Splinter Cell, although I can imagine that this is a test bed of sorts for Splinter Cell: Conviction.  The stealth parts allow you to "blend" into a crowd and disappear from the guards.  It's not like you are sneaking through the shadows to get to your target.

The game isn't too difficult, but as you progress into different parts of the city, you can get into huge fights with guards.  There are also optional missions that can become quite difficult due to the amount of guards in certain areas and the timed nature of it.  I'm looking at you middle district of Jerusalem.  The cities are huge and you can play in an entire city, once all the districts are open, without any loading between sections.  There is a great amount of detail as well.  Simply put, this game looks fantastic.
