EA Games and disc unreadable

I don't know why, but about 80% of the time I play an EA game on my 360, I will get a disc unreadable error.  Open the tray, close the tray after that and I won't get that error for the session again.  It's really weird and frustrating, especially when playing dynasty on the sports games.

Dead Rising

I recently started to play this game again to work on some of the achievements.  I'd almost forgotten how much fun this game is and how much easier it is with the real Mega Man blaster.  I recommend that you spend one play through killing 54,000+ zombies to unlock this weapon, it's well worth it.  The pyscopath battles are much easier with the blaster.  It's usually 2 to 3 hits and they are down, which gives you much more time to work on the other achievements, like rescuing retarded people in the mall.

I also made a few mistakes and gave one guy a gun and he promptly shot himself in the head in front of his girlfriend.  Oops, reload that one.  I also love Adam's chainsaws, souped up with a few books.  Man, those things rip through zombies like no tomorrow.  And Otis still needs to die.  Come on, I'm trying to kill zombies and you won't stop calling me to tell me where I am.  Don't you think I know where I am?

UEFA Champions League 2006-07

I finally picked up UEFA CL this weekend when I noticed that Best Buy had dropped the price to $29.99.  Since I had a 10% off coupon, this was an even better deal.  The gameplay is very similar to FIFA 07, but they did tune up the graphics and tweak the AI a bit.  My big complaint is that Gilberto Silva is oddly very pale, which makes identifying him very hard.  Other complaints: poor player images.  Cesc Fabregas looks nothing like the real deal.  I'm hoping that they at least try to update the models a bit for FIFA 08.  I'm sure it's not feasible for all the players, but the top teams should be pretty well represented.

The achievements are toned down in value, but not in difficulty.  It's more of a mix between FIFA 07 and FIFA World Cup.  There is a challenge mode, much like World Cup, but it isn't worth 500 points.  The 300 game winner isn't worth 200 points, like in FIFA 07.  That takes  a lot of work because you cannot sim to this. You actually have to play and win 300 games.  And that is time consuming.  Don't expect to pick this game up and unlock a bunch of achievements really quick.  You're going to have to work for them.

Have you ordered Halo 3 yet?

A quick glance over at Gamerscore Blog...

Shows that Halo 3 pre-orders have creeped to about 1 million.  If you really want that Legendary Edition with that lifesize helmet (note: lifesize if you are a cat), you better order it now.  Costco has pre-orders available for $117.99.  With tax and shipping (depending on where you are) it will run about $133.

Xbox 360 to come in HDMI flavor

Seems that the writing was on the wall with the Halo edition 360 that offers HDMI.  From now on, assuming you get a 360 (not the Core) manufactured after July 1, you will get HDMI included.  Makes the price cut a little more attractive for those that can take advantage of HDMI.  I can, but I won't be getting another console any time soon.

360 Price Drop and other goodies

According to Major Nelson,  the 360 will be getting a price cut.  The elite and 360 are slashed by $30 and $50 to $449 and $349, respectively.  Curiously, the core is dropped only $20 to $279.  This now makes the 360 a much better deal than the Core 360.  The difference is $70 now and unless the hard drive (20GB) drops in price by $30, no one in their right mind will ever ever ever buy a Core.  So why not just slash the price by $50 instead of $20 to keep that difference in place?

Also announced is the price for the Halo 3 SE 360.  That's going for $399.

Another Arsenal shirt...

Seems like I missed the announcement of a third shirt for Arsenal.  Looks pretty sweet too.

My Doctor shirt finally arrived

After waiting quite some time for this to be back in stock, my doctor t-shirt finally arrived

GTA IV delayed

I'm sure you've all heard by now that Take 2/Rockstar has decided to delay the game until sometime next year.  Are you upset that the game was pushed back?  I have mixed feelings on this.  Sure, I'd like to play the new GTA.  But, there are many, many so called "A" games coming out this fall.  You've got Halo 3, COD4, Mass Effect, PGR4, etc.  What I'd like to know is why every top game is coming out around the same time?  It seems like if you timed your release for some other time where there is no or little competition, you'd sell a lot more.  Maybe that's just speculation.  Part of this may be due to the fiscal years/quarters that companies just happen to have.  Maybe they want to get that big bump in revenue in that last quarter for their financial reports.  But would it make better business sense to give your big game some cushion on release?  Movie studios do this a lot.  If Fox says Star Wars is being released on May 25, no other big movie will release that week.  If games publishers did this, maybe there wouldn't be such a drought of games in the spring/summer.

Marathon: I think I'm going to be sick

If you've read many of the reviews for this game, they all state that the game makes them sick.  Not because the game is awful or the graphics are horrible, but rather it's motion sickness.  The game is pretty, but the sensation of movement will likely make you want to puke.  I've only felt this on a few games: Jedi Knight on the PC and that was because the damn screen was flipping around when you were in the space ship that was hurtling towards a planet and then on Return to Castle Wolfenstein on the Xbox.  That's it, that's the list.  Now I can add Marathon: Durandel.  I won't be able to finish this game at all.  I tried turning down the sensitivity on the movement, but that didn't help.  I can't put my finger on it, but there's just something about the game.  It's a shame too, because this game is a classic.

I'd recommend that people try the demo and see if they want to puke after playing it before buying it.
