More on Medal of Honor: Airborne

Well, I'm now on the last level of the game.  It's gotten much better as I've figured out how and where to land.  However, there are still issues with this game.  I would have preferred COD's method of health.  Cover doesn't always mean cover.  For some reason, the hit detection is really off.  Some enemies it seems have bent barrels to shoot you around corners or through and over cover.

The big problem with this "realistic" game is the elite Nazi soldiers who wield portable MG-42s that will mow you down.  These guys are pains in the butt.  They take at least 2 gammon grenades to kill and if you try killing them with a gun, it better be fully upgraded and you better not miss with anything.  What happened to realism?  That's what I liked about COD, there weren't any of these super soldiers straight out of Dark Forces and their elite super storm troopers.  The checkpoints can be a pain as well, if you get to one you'll have to fight more enemies just to get back to that point (provided you still drop out of the air).  Why isn't the area clear up until that point?  Who knows.

Despite these complaints and issues, it's a decent game.  Well worth a rental if you are into shooters.

Medal of Honor: Airborne

This game on expert is almost as frustrating as parts of COD2 and COD3.  I think the main problem with the game is the health system and frustrating "teammate" AI.  The health system is a combo of COD and your typical FPS.  You get 4 bars/blocks of health that can be upped by finding med kits.  You can also recover 1 bar by finding cover after you get hit.  You get hit too much and don't find cover, you die.  Unfortunately, this is hampered by ineffective teammate AI.  These guys are MORONS.  Often, I've found myself alone trying to battle a mess of Germans who move quickly and don't like dying unless you hit them in the head.  I'm still stuck on getting through a little maze to take out a radio tower or something on the 2nd misssion.  Each time I die, that part of the mission resets and I have to take out the MG42 nest again and work my way through hell.  The cool part, you drop in from the air.  The bad part...you screw up your landing...you're dead.  If only the game let you play around in training with the jumps, you only got 3 drops to practice landing.  There are some good parts to this game though.  The weapons are upgradeable as you use them to kill Germans.  The missions are somewhat fun, if not frustrating on expert.  I really enjoy the parachute drops and landing on Germans with a kick to the head.  More on this game as I play it.

Bioshock make me angry

Here's the reason: I completed the game on hard and didn't get the achievement.

Road trip

Last week, my family and I took off for Cooperstown, Niagra Falls, Toronto, and Pittsburgh via the road.  Each day (except from Niagra Falls to Toronto) was about 240 to 300+ miles on the road.  We finally put some mileage on the new TL and finished the trip with just over 5k miles on the car that's nearly a year old.

We stayed in Binghamton, NY the first night and I visited Mr. Tony's alma mater.  Who knew he was old enough to be in the first class?  The next day it was off to Cooperstown.  I expected the Hall of Fame to be much bigger.  But it wasn't.  I was disappointed there wasn't more stuff in the museum, but I can't really complain much.  I'll post more pics in later posts from the Hall.

After a few hours, it was off to Niagra Falls.  We got a nice room overlooking the falls from the 38th floor.  Great views.  Then it was off to Toronto for two days at the Rogers Centre.  The room we got overlooked the field for the Mariners-Jays.  I picked up a pretty sweet ticket that was the second row just to the right of the Mariners dugout.  No luck on an Ichiro autograph though, even though I brought my authentic 2001 jersey for him to sign.  I did get on a Tokyo show holding up my jersey.  I'll never see that though.

But my fortune turned when a few actors from Heroes were at the game.  Mika threw out the first pitch and then Ando, Sylar, and the new girl, Maya sat a section over from me.  I got them to sign a baseball for me and Ando posed for a pic (below).  My seats also allowed me great views of home plate.

The next day, I stayed in the hotel room to watch the game with the kids.  Lots of fun, then it was off to travel around Toronto with the family.

Next day, off to Pittsburgh for a pit stop and then back home.
